1. What is PESE?
PESE is an acronym that stands for both Private Equity Stock Exchange and Private Equity Stock Evaluation. These are two names (one for non-US residents and one for US residents, respectively) for the same web site.
2. Are there any differences between the Private Equity Stock Exchange and Private Equity Stock Evaluation?
Both web sites contain identical information, but a second web address (URL) was created for US residents based upon a conversation we had with the SEC (before either website was created). The US regulators expressed a position that the use of the term "exchange" was regulated for web sites targeted at US residents. In addition, investors residing in the US are held to the higher standards of the Securities Act of 1933 in order to obtain a password. These include the ability to take risk (accredited individual or qualified institutional buyer) and a pre-existing (a US resident joining on Tuesday can invest in a deal posted on Wednesday but not one posted on Monday) and substantial (must have an investor profile) relationship. Non-US resident investors are held to their local regulatory standards.
3. How do I find a private company on PESE to invest in?
We have a Google-like algorithm which ranks companies based on their investment quality. You can select a subset of our database by screening based upon fields such as geography, or industry. However, the rank in which the companies will be displayed will always be based upon an objective set of criteria designed to select good companies, not companies looking to pay for investors.
4. How do I find an investor on PESE for my private company?
We show limited information on all of our members on our web site. We have, but do not show, more data including contact information, more detailed investor preferences, etc. We do have a financial service (Investor Introduction) which will send information on your company to selected investors. However, this is a paid service that involves us getting to know your company better so that we can make appropriate introductions to the subset of our members that want companies sent to them. Payment for investor introduction, or any other investor service or product, will not directly affect your company's ranking.
5. What does the Most Popular tab show?
These are the companies in each industry category that rank best according to our investor algorithm.
6. What is Private Equity News?
We have a news feed, based upon sources such as Reuters, Bloomberg, and Google key-word searches, that selects stories from thousands of different news services that focus on private equity. Sometimes, when several different stories have appeared about a single event, we provide a summary story that allows you to get the best of several sources on the same event.
7. What are Private Equity Events?
We regularly search private equity service providers for details on upcoming events that might be of interest to our members and post them on our web site.
8. What are the conferences that I see on your home web page?
These are conferences held a private club in midtown Manhattan which are organized by New York Private Equity.
9. How can I get invited to the NYPE conferences?
These conferences are free for investors. Companies are selected on the basis of the ranking algorithm and charged a nominal fee to cover the cost of the conference (no profit).
10. How can I become an investor member?
We currently only grant membership to investors by invitation. We are now limiting those invitations to qualified institutional buyers but hope to expand to super-qualified accredited individuals in the future.
11. What are the requirements to list as an company?
We currently have more companies than any other private equity website. We have stopped accepting new companies for membership while we work on increasing the amount of information we have on the companies we already have listed.
12. What financial products and services does PESE provide?
We sell several products that are designed to help companies find investors. None of our products will directly affect the ranking of a company on the website. However, if the purchase of a financial product results in more information being placed in a company profile, then it may indirectly increase the ranking of a company since part of the algorithm is based upon the quantity and quality of the information in the company profile.
13. Why don't you charge any money for listing fees?
We do not want to introduce a financial bias into the selction of the companies that our investor members get to see.
